A Perfect Blend: Blueberry Peach Jam
At Pennywise Plates, we love experimenting with new flavor combinations, especially when it comes to our favorite jams.
One of our latest and most delightful creations is Blueberry Peach Jam. This unique blend of sweet, juicy peaches and tart blueberries creates a flavor profile that’s both refreshing and irresistible.
While neither peaches nor blueberries are readily available for free, we’ve found ways to incorporate them into our budget-friendly jam-making process. Here’s how you can do the same.

Embracing the Summer Bounty
Both peaches and blueberries are summer fruits, making this the ideal season to find them at their peak freshness and best prices. I always keep an eye out for sales at local farmers’ markets and grocery stores.
Occasionally, I’ll even buy a case of slightly imperfect or ripe fruits from a passing fruit truck. These are perfect for making jam, as their ripeness enhances the natural sweetness and flavor.
When I find a good deal, I buy in bulk and freeze the fruits for later use. Freezing is a fantastic way to preserve the taste of summer for the colder months. Here’s my simple method:
- Blanching and Peeling Peaches: Blanch the peaches in boiling water for 30 seconds, then transfer them to an ice water bath. This makes peeling easier.
- Slicing , Treating, and Freezing Peaches: Slice the peaches and treat them with lemon juice to prevent browning. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Then, transfer them to freezer bags.
- Freezing Blueberries: Wash and dry the blueberries thoroughly. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Then, transfer them to freezer bags.
If I run out of frozen blueberries or peaches, if my budget allows I will snag a bag of frozen from a bulk foods store; “slightly imperfect” frozen fruit may not be pretty but it tastes just the same!
Having frozen peaches and blueberries on hand isn’t just great for jam-making; they’re also perfect for smoothies, baking, and even snacking. My kids love adding them to their morning yogurt or making quick, healthy smoothies.
The Recipe
Combining peaches and blueberries in a jam is a stroke of genius. The sweetness of the peaches perfectly balances the tartness of the blueberries, resulting in a jam that’s as versatile as it is delicious.
If using fresh peaches, blanch and peel as above. If using frozen, simply thaw before use. Prepare the peaches by either crushing or chopping into small pieces – the smaller the pieces, the smoother the end product.
To prepare the blueberries, I like to pre-cook them a bit: put the blueberries in a pot with half a cup of water, bring to a boil then allow to simmer for about five minutes. Then either crush berries with a potato masher or, as I like to do, puree the blueberries with an immersion blender until smooth.
Versatility and Gifts
This Blueberry Peach Jam is incredibly versatile. Spread it on toast, swirl it into yogurt, use it as a filling for pastries, or even pair it with savory dishes like grilled chicken or pork.
Its vibrant color and unique flavor also make it a standout in gift baskets. I often include jars in thank-you gifts or holiday baskets, and they’re always a hit.

Do you think this could be frozen rather than canned?
Hi Melissa, great question! Yes, all of my jams can be frozen. Just place into any freezer-friendly container, and it can be kept frozen for up to a year. (I really should update my posts with this information!)
